Şenkop derives its name from two powerful elements: "Şen," the Turkish word for joy and cheerfulness, and "syncopation," the rhythmic technique that adds excitement and unexpected accents to music. If translated to English, the band's name would aptly be "Joycopation" – a perfect reflection of their musical approach. This name perfectly encapsulates the band's artistic mission: discovering authentic folk songs from Anatolia and neighboring regions and reimagining them with vibrant, contemporary arrangements that preserve their cultural essence while infusing them with joyful energy.

The band's distinctive sound comes from their innovative fusion of jazz harmonies with traditional makam music, carefully preserving the microtonal elements that give Anatolian music its unique character. Şenkop approaches Anatolian musical tradition as a rich mosaic shaped by the diverse ethnicities that have called the region home throughout history. This multicultural perspective allows them to explore the nuanced musical languages of Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian, Greek, Assyrian, and many other cultures that have contributed to Anatolia's extraordinary musical heritage.

Şenkop began its musical journey with a series of live performance recordings, coming together in the first half of 2024. The first concert where the group was named took place in May at Art İstanbul Feshane with the contributions of İBB (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality). Performing at prestigious boutique venues such as Moda Sahnesi, Bova, Kadıköy Sessions, Sound Idea, and Minoa Pera, Şenkop also had the chance to perform at Istanbul's special venues like Büyükada Taş Mektep and Basilica Cistern.

At the 32nd Istanbul Jazz Festival organized by İKSV, the opening of “+1'li Gece Gezmesi” was made with a Şenkop concert. The first album "Evde" (At Home), consisting of live performance recordings with video, took its place on all digital platforms following the launch concert at Moda Sahnesi. In September 2025, they had the opportunity to perform at the Anolopolis World Music Festival in Thessaloniki.

Şenkop aims to build a bridge between Anatolia's rich musical heritage and modern sensibility, inviting listeners to re-experience traditional melodies in fresh and exciting ways.
